Nova Scotia had some painful budget cuts announced recently specifically to the Arts and Culture. This will end up affecting our music festival scene indirectly.
What that means for festivals specifically
Most festivals don’t rely only on provincial funding, but they often use it for things like:
artist fees
stage production
community programming
outreach events
Because of the cuts, festivals may have to:
reduce the number of artists
cancel smaller stages or community events
charge higher ticket prices
cut local artist bookings
Venues and organizations are already warning that the cuts could cause “extreme loss” of arts programming and jobs across the sector.
This situation is bigger than the rave scene but we can still get together to raise awareness about the importance of our festival scene and what we bring to the Maritimes <3
