5 Years on Twitch | Wax Trax | Tina Trost
🎧 A celebration of beats, reunions and memories – on the day when everything connects 🎉
In 2020, when the world was silent, music spoke louder. In this context, almost 2 months without seeing my son Thomas (who had been playing and streaming music on Twitch for some time), I returned to the decks on Mother's Day, after more than 15 years away from professional DJing. I found on Twitch a new space for expression, acceptance and discovery, very therapeutic in these complex times.
I met Mike (rottenwithcheek), from Chicago, who appeared on one of these broadcasts and sent an emote from Ian Curtis (from Jeff Moyer) – I didn't even know how Twitch worked, nor that it was possible to create emotes! Attracted by the broadcasts of the legendary Wax Trax! Records, created to support DJs during the pandemic, the therapy he found (he identified himself to me as Miguel) was to support the DJs as their moderators.
The link between us? Wax Trax! I worked at the Brazilian record label Stiletto in the 90s, responsible for launching several artists and labels, officially representing Wax Trax! in Brazil. Miguel, a fan of the scene and the history that Wax Trax! carried, frequented the legendary store (whose address he knows by heart to this day). At the end of 2020, we organized our first party to celebrate the label.
This whole meeting was connected by Tina – a dear friend from Twitch, from the pandemic and from life. Responsible for Wax Trax!'s social media, she was a powerful force of empathy and altruism who connected and supported DJs from all over the world, creating bridges and bonds. A little over a month after we met in person, in 2023, Tina left us, a victim of cancer, but her legacy, her generosity and her music continue to echo.
On April 16th, there will be a response to the Chicago Landmarks Commission hearing (which was already a success), which will officially declare the legendary Wax Trax! store on North Lincoln Avenue (the first place Mike took me to visit when we met and started dating). So, we thought we would organize our fifth party in honor of the Wax Trax! legacy on May 16th, exactly on Tina's birthday.
A tribute. A celebration. A tribute to the music that unites, to the love that is born in sound and to the memory that never fades.
