 About the event

Campaign 1 - ACLU: With a presidential administration that has shown that it wants to overstep it's constitutional authority to destroy our civil services, weaken our national security and economy, and trample our rights as citizens, I decided that rather than sit idle, we could use our Raid Train fundraising abilities to challenge the Trump administration.  I believe the best way to do this is to support non-profit organizations that specialize in legal challenges in federal courts.  In order to get the ball rolling, I have chosen the ACLU as the best logical choice as our first fundraiser, as they have multiple law suits against the current administration.  For future events, I would like to make it a lot more democratic, and offer a choice between various non-profits.

Part of the issue with deciding where to give, is that many of the key areas that we want to focus on have pending litigation through either state governments or labor unions, which may not be easy to contribute to directly.  It is also good if the non-profit has a strong law arm with experience in challenging the federal government.  ACLU, Lambda Legal, Sierra Club and others come to mind as having a strong legal presence.  The other area that can be a deciding factor on where to give is if the agency has fundraising tools available.  None of us want any legal custody of raised funds, and therefore the non-profit needs to have either a fundraising account with Tiltify, an embedded fundraising platform via GoFundMe fundrasing tools for non-profits (not a personal fundraiser), or suitable fundraising alternatives.
